I spoke to my Great Grandmother (Erma) about World War 2. She said she remembers being about 8-9 years old and going with her Mother to get sugar with ration stamps. Things were rationed back then. Times were hard back then. The economy was really bad. There was a limit on how much on certain things families could get due to having to send supplies to the troops and to support our troops. They had to walk to get the things that were needed.
My great Grandfather (Royden) was in World War 2. He was a Marine aboard a ship. Before he passed away he told us a story about how he refused to sleep down in the ship. He slept on the life boats that were used in case they had to abort ship. He used a tarp to cover up with.
I also spoke to my other Great Grandmother (Herma) and she said there were shortages on sugar, flour, lard, and a few other things because the farmers were busy building planes and things for the war. Also the farmers didn't farm their land and take care of their animals due to going to fight in the war.
